CEC's Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival

Earth Day LogoProject Description: The Community Environmental Council's (CEC) Earth Day Festival in Santa Barbara takes place annually in April at Alameda Park. We have worked with the CEC to promote the Earth Day festival, developing media sponsorship and creating print and online advertising, poster design, and a 12-page insert featured in the center spread of the Santa Barbara Independent newspaper.

The 2009 event theme "Life After Oil" was depicted in the artwork we created specifically for the event poster and the cover of the 12-page SB Independent insert. The 2006 festival poster also featured our original artwork and won an ADDY award.

History of Earth Day
The story goes that Earth Day was conceived by Senator Gaylord Nelson and his assistant Denis Hayes after a trip they took to Santa Barbara right after the horrific oil spill off our coast in 1969. They were so outraged by what they saw that upon returning to Washington D.C., Senator Nelson introduced a bill designating April 22 as a national day to celebrate the earth. It was in the wake of this same tragedy that the Community Environmental Council was established.
